Slot Machine positioning

Volumes have been stated on this issue, and the bickering and face-offs about where the "hot" slots are positioned in a casino are still there – sixty yrs after the slot machines were first placed in the casinos.

The quintessential rule is that the more favourable slot machines were placed just inside the main foyer of the casino; so that people passing by would see real jackpot winners … be tempted to come unto the gambling floor and play. Our resolve is that this is definitely no longer true.

The great majority of the big name casinos nowadays are colossal complexes and you no longer can see inside from the sidewalk, so there’s no longer a reason to situate the ‘loose’ slot games near any doorways.

Yet another traditional rule is that loose slot machines are installed on the major aisles in the casinos, again so that more potential players could see winning jackpots and be inspired to play. Importantly though, we find that this also is not a universal rule any more.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played the slot machines at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

Today, casinos are constantly changing their philosophy about where to place the loose slot machines.

Casino Slot Games

Modern casino Slots are controlled by a computer, and the win %s are pre-programmed into the software.

Casino Slots have Random Number Generators that are ceaselessly generating combinations, even when the slot machine game is not active.

Running in sync with the Random Number Generator of the casino one-armed bandit is the payout per cent.

The payout % controls how much the slot machine will pay, for eg the payout percent could be ninety per cent, which means the slot game will pay out ninety per cent of all the stakes played, and the casino simply gets to keep 10 per cent.

This doesn’t imply that every time you bet 10 credits you will receive nine in return – where is the fun and thrill in that? Instead, the casino slot just will not pay out for a little while, and then suddenly start up a hot streak and you might catch the big top prize.

The pay off %s will vary between the different games and a few of the highly popular casinos, e.g. Golden Online Casino, which gives a payout rate of up to 95 %!

This means that, in essence, the slot machine takes all the money played into it and pays it out to a couple of lucky winners. The casino only gets to keep a averagely small % of all the bets allocated.

The casino slot software controls each part of the machine, from the flashing lights to the rotating of the reels.

When you hit spin on the slot machine, a combination is generated by the RNG which connects with the pictures on the reel.
