Volumes have been written on this issue, and the conflict and feuds about where the "hot" slot games are installed in a casino are still raging – more than 60 yrs after slot machines were first added to the gaming floor in gambling houses.

The standard rule is that the more favourable slot games were located just inside the main entry of the casino; so that casino fanatics walking by would see actual jackpot winners … be attracted to come unto the gaming floor … play. Our finding is that this is not so anymore.

The majority of the big name casinos today are jumbo complexes and now you can’t see inside from the sidewalk, so there’s no longer a reason to put the ‘loose’ slots close to any doors.

Yet another classic rule is that loose one armed bandits are positioned on the major aisles inside the casinos, again so that more folks could see winning jackpots and be motivated to play. However, we find that this also isn’t a universal rule any more.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played slots at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the very last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

Today, casinos are constantly changing their perspective about where to place the loose slot machine games.
